McGiffin worked at KTVL in Medford, Oregon, as a meteorologist for the morning and noon shows, marking the start of her television career. There, she forecasted for 5 different microclimates, which built her skill in mountain and fire weather forecasting.
McGiffin has been an active member of the American Meteorological Society since she was a college student.
