Kmitt works for WTKR as a reporter. Kmitt started working at News 3 in September 2021. Penny covered breaking news and filled in on the anchor desk at KFDA in Amarillo, Texas, before settling in Hampton Roads. When Penny was barely 13 years old, she volunteered to give the morning announcements for the 8th grade at her elementary school in North Royalton, Ohio.
Penny gained a variety of experiences while living in the Texas Panhandle, such as collaborating closely with law enforcement during a series of drive-by shootings, researching COVID-19’s long-term side effects, including hair loss and high blood pressure, and even producing a 3-part documentary on the debut of Amarillo’s first upscale boutique hotel (which was actually a speakeasy back in 1920!).
She worked as a freelance digital producer and writer for NBC Sports Washington before transitioning into the journalism industry. Penny later applied her knowledge of sports to the NCAA, where she covered men’s and women’s Division I basketball for The Patriot League Network and American University as a sideline reporter and on-air star.
She covered the nation’s capital’s recently established marijuana laws and restrictions while there and assisted in creating social media tactics for the National Museum of the American People, a forthcoming museum. Penny has traveled far and wide thanks to her love of sharing stories. She lived in Copenhagen, Denmark, for six months while she studied mass communication and social media (and took every opportunity to travel throughout Europe).
Penny also worked as an NBC Universal summer intern at Bravo in New York City. She gained a lot of knowledge about the podcasting sector while working at Bravo, where she edited Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live podcast and wrote interview questions for The Real Housewives.
She enjoys spending her free time in the neighborhood and listening to the locals’ tales. Penny appreciates giving back to the community by working at women’s shelters.
