During her time in Colorado, she broadcasted many national stories such as the Surfside condo crumble in Florida, lethal tornadoes in Kentucky, President Biden’s coronation from Delaware, and the George Floyd and Jacob Blake cases and succeeding protests in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Additionally, she did features about a musician commune in Nashville, the newest national park in West Virginia, and profiles of women-owned businesses spanning Missouri, Indiana, and Chicago.
For 5 years, she served CBS Miami as the main anchor. While there, she provided live nonstop coverage of the Pulse nightclub shootings, President Obama’s visit to Cuba, the demise of Fidel Castro, the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport shootings, the Parkland school massacre, and Hurricanes Matthew, Irma, and Maria.
Shahbazi is familiar with the streets of Southern California since she reported and filled in as an anchor at KABC in Los Angeles. Before KABC, she worked for KNXV in Phoenix as a reporter, where she broadcasted the US-Mexico border and served among the first reporters on the ground in Tucson after the mass shooting and tried assassination of previous Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
Shahbazi started her career as an education reporter at KEPR in Pasco, Washington, and worked off-screen at KTVU in Oakland, California. Aside from journalism, she has worked on documentary films such as “King Leopold’s Ghost” and a piece for PBS Frontline World about Iraqi refugees in Jordan briefly after the U.S. invaded. For a decade, she worked offscreen as a photojournalist and editor in huge markets all over the nation.
