Zak Dahlheimer, a passionate digital storyteller and award-winning journalist, is thrilled to be in Hampton Roads. Zak previously worked as a reporter for WNCN in Raleigh, North Carolina, until relocating to Virginia in March 2020.
He covered topics from all throughout the state when he was in the Triangle, such as the hurricanes Florence and Dorian and the 2020 presidential primary. He also covered the aftermath of Hurricane Michael in the Florida Panhandle while on assignment in Virginia Beach, where a mass shooting occurred in 2019.
At KESQ-TV and CBS Local 2 in Palm Springs, California, Zak also had positions as an anchor and an investigative reporter. While in the Coachella Valley, Zak covered earthquakes, wildfires, high-profile judicial cases—such as the Turpin child abuse case and the Pinyon Pines triple murder trial—the fatal 2016 Palm Springs tour bus accident, the 2016 and 2018 elections, and California’s legalization of recreational marijuana usage.
He worked as a reporter and stand-in anchor for WJHG-TV and WECP-TV, the NBC and CBS stations in Panama City Beach, Florida, before relocating to the West. He reported and served as the host for WUFT News, a PBS and NPR station serving North Central Florida, while still a student at UF.
In addition to several honors from the Florida Associated Press Broadcasters Association, Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas (RTDNAC), Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters, and National Broadcasting Society, Zak has received a regional Emmy nomination.
His interests outside of the newsroom include traveling, playing the guitar, and supporting the Florida Gators! Zak is thrilled to represent the Virginia Region on the American Cancer Society’s Board of Directors.
