As part of his work with Convective Field Study, Johnson travled over 3,000 miles to pursue storms across the Plains. He also interned at WTVO in Rockford, CNN Worldwide in Atlanta, and WGN-TV in Chicago, where he had the chance to work with legendary Chief Meteorologist Tom Skilling.

Johnson works as a weekday morning meteorologist for TMJ4 News. His forecasts air every weekday morning from 5 to 7 a.m. and throughout the week on TMJ4 News Today. On his 4th day on the job, he delivered wall-to-wall coverage for a tornado warning in Milwaukee County. That storm produced the first tornado in the Milwaukee city limits in 20+ years. Since then, he has forecasted everything, including snow squalls and pneumonia fronts.
Johnson received a nomination for a Regional Emmy Award for broadcasting the February 2024 tornadoes in southern Wisconsin. He and his fellow Storm Team 4 meteorologists stayed with viewers through the night as destructive floods tore parts of the Milwaukee metro region on August 9th-10th, 2025.
Before working in Milwaukee, Johnson spent two years at WMTV in Madison, Wisconsin, and three years at KHBS/KHOG-TV (40/29 News) in Fort Smith-Fayetteville, Arkansas. While in Madison, he was on the air during the EF-3 Boscobel tornado that ravaged SW Wisconsin in August 2021. The winds surpassed 160 mph at one point, and the twister carved a 10+ mile path of devastation south south of town. The team coverage helped people get the warning and shelter in time.
During his time in Fort Smith-Fayetteville, Johnson forecast the heavy downpours in western Arkansas. He also delivered live reports in Fort Smith as the city faced multiple bridge closures because of a raging river. Moreover, he filed reports as two huge barges drifted down the river towards the Webbers Falls Lock & Dam.
