Nic Merianos Career
Merianos works as the chief meteorologist with CBS Miami’s NEXT Weather team. He forecasts on weeknights at 5, 5:30, 6, 7, and 11pm. He holds the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist distinction from the American Meteorological Society. He came to Miami after working as the chief meteorologist at KOVR-TV | CBS Sacramento. There, he led the weather broadcasts and helped build and fortify the station’s First Alert Weather brand across TV, digital, streaming, and social platforms.
Before his tenure in Sacramento, Merianos spent several years forecasting at Bay News 9 in Tampa. There, he provided coverage for flooding, severe storms, major tropical systems, and Florida’s fast-changing weather patterns. He also forecasted nationally from Denver for WeatherNation. While in Denver, he provided coverage for big hurricanes including Michael, Irma, Maria, Matthew, Harvey, and Florence.
The Northeast native’s passion began in his childhood, having a fascination for severe weather, powerful winter storms, and how the weather affected people’s daily lives. As a child, he watched the weather for WBZ-TV, CBS4 Miami’s sister station in Boston.
Merianos has a unique background beyond meteorology. Before and during the early part of his TV career, he was a trained firefighter and EMT in the Northeast for 6 years. In addition, he has firefighting and wildland fire certifications. These experiences give him a deeper understanding of public safety, emergency response, and the significance of clear communication during impactful weather events. He is also a licensed pilot for single-engine aircraft, giving him an added perspective on weather from both the ground and the sky.
