Kala debuted on TV in 2011 when she appeared in Channel 4’s Shameless SN 8 playing the role of Sita Desa. Next, she professionally debuted on stage in 2012 with roles in the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Much Ado About Nothing in Stratford-upon-Avon. For her performance in the production, she attained a nomination for an  Ian Charleson Award. Moreover, she appeared in Khadija is 18 at the Finborough Theatre. For her performance, she attained an Off West End Award nomination.

After graduating from drama school in 2013, Kala debuted in her first feature film, Jadoo. Also, she starred in Farragut North at Southwark Playhouse and Djinns Of Eidgah at the Royal Court Theatre. From 2015 to 2016, she played the role of Sooni Dalal in Channel 4’s Indian Summers.

In 2017, Kala appeared in more theatre productions, including PunkPlay at Southwark Playhouse, Obsession at the Barbican Theatre, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike at the Theatre Royal, and The Welkin at the National Theatre. She returned to TV when she made a guest appearance in the BBC’s Call the Midwife in 2021 and Netflix’s Master of None.

In 2022, she played a recurring role in Netflix’s Man vs. Bee and the Channel’s The Undeclared War. In 2023, Kala rejoined the National Theatre when she played Jessica Levy in The Motive and the Cue. Further, she took over the role of Vimala in The Father and the Assassin. Kala works under the talent agency, Curtis Brown.
