Mara was born to Timothy Christopher Mara and Kathleen McNulty Mara (née Rooney). Timothy works as an NFL scout and vice president of the New York Giants for player evaluation. Mara is the second eldest of their 4 kids, i.e. Daniel, Patricia “Rooney”; and Conor. Daniel is the eldest while Conor is the youngest.

Tim Mara, her great-grandfather founded the New York Giants while her other great-grandfather, Art Rooney, Sr, founded Pittsburgh Steelers. Since its formation in 1933, her mother’s side held ownership of the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers. Her father’s side held ownership of the NFL’s New York Giants since its creation in 1925.

Wellington Mara and Ann Mara were her paternal grandparents. Wellington co-owned the Giants from 1995 till his demise. After his death, Mara’s uncle and Wellington’s son, John took ownership. He serves the Giants as President, CEO, and co-owner of the team.
