Being employed by the television station Kelsey grew up watching in Newport News is like coming full circle for her. She is overjoyed to report to the area where she was raised.
Since her first experience covering sports in high school, Kelsey has known she wants to work in the news industry. She obtained experience reporting, editing, and anchoring for VCU InSight at her alma mater, Virginia Commonwealth University, which was broadcast on the regional PBS station in Richmond.
Kelsey relocated to News 3 from Northern Virginia, where she was a reporter for WDVM25’s Chantilly Bureau in Hagerstown, Maryland. She has written about the 2021 Virginia primary elections, the coronavirus outbreak, the Black Lives Matter demonstrations in Washington, D.C., and Governor Ralph Northam’s decision to legalize marijuana.
Her favorite stories are about local residents helping those in need and collaborating with educational institutions. The National Association of Black Journalists is a group that Kelsey actively participates in. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, brunching, and mentoring when she isn’t working. Helping people has always been Kelsey’s great interest. She is happy to share her experiences and forge new relationships in her neighborhood.
