Kilmer received her high school diploma before enrolling at Ursinus College. Later, she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Media and Communication Studies and an academic minor in English. While studying, she got her first taste of Broadcast journalism, interning at two television stations in Philadelphia. Kilmer is a morning news anchor for WPXI Channel 11. Before that role, she played a significant role in launching two newscasts produced by WPXI. She also anchored alongside well-known Channel 11 anchor David Johnson for the start of Channel 11 on FOX 53 at 6:30 p.m. and reported on the breaking news desk for the premiere of Channel 11 News at 4 p.m. She started off her career at the station as a morning reporter, winning two Emmys for her live coverage.
During her tenure at WPXI, Kilmer has broadcast many events in Pittsburgh, such as the Tree of Life massacre. She was on the scene outside the synagogue minutes after Robert Bowers had committed the worst antisemitic mass shooting in U.S. history. She was present till the end of the case, anchoring everything when a federal jury ultimately sentenced Bowers to death. Additionally, she won an Emmy Award and an Edward R. Murrow Award for her anchoring amid an active shooter situation in 2024. Besides those two awards, she has won other Emmy Awards for her work in Pittsburgh and an Edward R. Murrow Award.
Before working for WPXI, Kilmer worked for WAVY as a reporter for the evening breaking news. In addition to that, she worked for WFMZ in Berks county as a reporter. There, she broadcast multiple high-profile corruption investigations, including the indictment of Attorney General Kathleen Kane and an alleged “pay-to-play” plot among city officials in Reading and Allentown. She held a live discussion on HLN about the wrongful death of a mother who died while serving time in jail for truancy violations in 2014. Her career started at WAND in Central Illinois as a multimedia journalist. While at WAND, she shot and edited her stories while operating a bureau in Champaign.
