Shaw works for KTBS as a news anchor. At the youthful age of 19, he began his career in broadcasting as a radio disc jockey. Neil worked in radio while studying radio, television, and film at Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM). He advanced his education and piqued his interest in weather while working for Monroe’s BY KNOE TV and Radio station.
Shaw earned a certification in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University in 1995 and graduated. He likes to travel, cook, go camping, and spend time with his family. He has covered several weather events and how weather impacts people as a result of his enthusiasm for weather reporting and forecasting.
Flying a “Hurricane Hunter” recon with the U.S. Air Force out of Keesler Airforce Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, highlights this. “Hurricane Isidore” was the target of the operation; it was churning over the Gulf of Mexico and made landfall over Mississippi and Louisiana the day after our recon trip. He constantly responds “yes” when asked if he would attempt anything similar again.
Shaw has been the radio “play-by-play” announcer at Neville High School since 1990, and he also has a MASSIVE passion for high school football. He has visited various football grounds in Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas while calling these games. His preferred stadium, when not playing at Neville in Monroe, is the Louisiana Superdome.
