Before joining the station, Wyarr worked as a chief meteorologist for WVUA 23.
Wes is familiar with Alabama’s shifting weather because he is from Tuscaloosa. He worked at WVUA-TV in Tuscaloosa for seven years before joining WBRC as Chief Meteorologist. Wes also worked as an adjunct professor at the University of Alabama, teaching broadcast meteorology.
Prior to working at WVUA, he was Meridian, MS’s WTOK-TV’s Chief Meteorologist. Wes has covered a number of the most important severe weather events in Alabama’s history over his more than 20 years of reporting.
Wes will admit that one of his favorite things is to share his love of the weather. He has talked to numerous organizations across the state and visited schools throughout his career. Wes has also assisted in mentoring a number of today’s successful meteorologists.
He remembers incidents like the Blizzard of 1993 and claims that such memories from his childhood in Alabama are what led him to become a meteorologist today.
Wes is in possession of the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal and the National Weather Association’s Seal of Approval. He participates actively in both groups. Wes participates in the evaluation of meteorologists around the country as a member of the National Weather Association Seal Committee.
His most notable accomplishment is receiving an honorary resolution from the State of Alabama for his coverage of severe weather in West Alabama. Additionally, in 2003, 2005, 2008, 2009, and 2015, the Associated Press awarded him the best weather anchor.
