Alvarez serves as a News Anchor & Executive Producer for CBS7 News. Alvarez began working for CBS7 News as an intern in June 2016 before becoming an anchor and executive producer. He was promoted to Anchor and Reporter In 2018.
After joining the group, Matthew took on a variety of responsibilities as an intern, from writing for newscasts to assisting photographers and reporters on location. After completing his internship, Matthew became a full-time member of the CBS7 staff as an Associate Producer before being elevated to Producer of CBS7 News at 6 & 10.
Matthew has appreciated being able to once again leave the CBS7 Newsroom in this new and difficult job and convey the tales of West Texans. Then, as an anchor and CBS7 executive producer, Matthew joined the Wake Up West Texas team in January 2019.
Matthew appreciates being able to participate in the community in addition to reporting and getting the most recent news that affects him. He has had the opportunity to teach aspiring journalists at nearby schools while working for CBS7.
He has received recognition for his achievements, including the Edward R. Murrow Award for Breaking News Reporting, a nomination for a Lone Star Emmy Award for “Continued Coverage of Breaking News,” and the Hispanic Heritage of Odessa Media Spirit Award.
