Mickey Ferguson Career
Ferguson works for WBRC FOX6 as a lead weather reporter for Good Day Alabama. On October 21, 1987, he began working in the television industry as a news producer at Anniston, Alabama’s WJSU-TV.
By agreeing to provide morning news updates, he was given his first opportunity to go on the air. He leaped at the opportunity since nobody else wanted to wake up and be on at 4:20 in the morning, said Mickey. Mickey quickly started covering and hosting the weekend news.
He relocated to Birmingham in 1990 and accepted a position with WBMG-TV, the neighborhood CBS affiliate. He reported there during the week and anchored the weekend newscasts.
But after working in television for a while, Mickey made the decision to take a sabbatical and work for his family’s cabinet manufacturing company. That was short-lived. Well, the bug had bitten me, says Mickey, “I thought I could walk away.” Now that he was firmly entrenched in the world of television, Mickey applied for a weekend weather job at WVTM-TV, and his career in weather reporting was born.
Mickey found himself doing morning cut-ins once more, but this time he gave the weather report rather than the news. He enjoyed doing the weather, but due to budget restrictions, he soon found himself searching for a new TV home.
Mickey obtained a position at Montgomery’s WSFA-TV, where he co-hosted the neighborhood morning show and provided weather forecasts. When WBRC offered Mickey the morning weather post three years later, he accepted.
Since Mickey began working for WBRC, a few things have changed. Today, Good Day Alabama airs for five hours every weekday. “I know people watch or listen to our news, weather, and traffic information at different times while they’re getting ready for work or school. However, I know that 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. on weekday mornings is a lot of weather information.”
Mickey claims he has always desired a position at WBRC. He took twelve years to get here, but now Good Day Alabama viewers can enjoy his unique perspective on the weather every weekday morning. Mickey Ferguson is a welcome addition to the WBRC family.
