Spencer Christian Career
Christian works for ABC-owned KGO-TV as a weather forecaster at 4 and 6 P.M. in San Francisco. He joined the ABC7 News team in January 1999. As a news reporter, he started his broadcasting career at WWBT in Richmond, Virginia, where he covered state and local politics, the public school system, and significant appeals court cases from the Fourth US Circuit.
Christian is most recognized for his work as an ABC Good Morning America weather forecaster from 1986 until 1998. When he joined the Action News team at WBAL-TV in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1975, he was working as a weatherman for the first time. The crew also comprised Sue Simmons, Mike Hambrick, Ron Smith, Curt Anderson, and Joe Krebs.
As the presenter of the music game show Triple Threat from 1992 to 1993, Christian could also be seen on the BET cable network.
Christian battled a severe gambling addiction for years. He wrote a book titled You Bet Your Life: How I Survived Jim Crow Racism, Hurricane Chasing, and Gambling in 2018 in which he details his addiction and his rehabilitation.
Christian departed Good Morning America at the end of 1998 and started providing weather predictions at KGO-TV in San Francisco, California, where he is still employed today, in January 1999. Between 1995 and 1999, he served as the presenter of HGTV’s Spencer Christian’s Wine Cellar.
Since 1997, Christian has served as the host of the PBS train program Tracks Ahead. He started serving as host of the well-liked afternoon program The View from the Bay in San Francisco in 2006.
While Ginger Zee was getting married in June 2014, Christian briefly returned to the Good Morning America set as a stand-in weather forecaster. On November 19, 2015, he came back once again to commemorate Good Morning America’s 40th birthday.
