Matthew Wine is an American working in the field of meteorology as a weekend meteorologist for WDRB. He came to Louisville, Kentucky, in April 2024 after working in Dothan, Alabama, as the chief meteorologist at WDHN for 4 years.

Wine received his diploma from the English Station campus of Christian Academy of Louisville before enrolling at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Later, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and Broadcast. There, he participated in multiple organizations, including the Christian Student Fellowship, News Channel 12, and three different meteorology clubs. Moreover, he became a founding father and president of the Epsilon Xi chapter of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.
Wine was WKU’s mascot, Big Red, while at college, which he describes as his most amazing experience. As the mascot that embodied the spirit of WKU, he visited many places across the U.S. Every smile made every sweaty moment extremely special, especially for children and those with special needs.

Matthew Wine Career
Wine serves as a weekend meteorologist for WDRB. He is currently looking for ways to get involved with the Louisville community. Before this, he worked as the chief meteorologist for WDHN. When he was young, his mother used to turn on and watch the weather channel every night during Hurricane Katrina. He was in awe of people who get paid for placing themselves in the path of a hurricane and reporting the storm. This made his interest in weather grow.
During middle school, Wine used to take videos of thunderstorms in front of his porch and capture lightning. To this day, the weather still amazes him. He remembers how his classmates used to ask him how hot it would be and if there would be severe storms that week.
During his freshman year in high school, Wine obtained his Eagle Scout award. He is grateful for the camping trips he went on and the lessons he learned while at the Troop & Venture Crew 212. He claims those leaders, including his dad, helped him become the man he is today. Additionally, he misses doing community service projects and hiking as he did when he was a boy scout.

After working at WDHN for 4 years, Wine left Wiregrass on April 27, 2020. His last day at WDHN was on April 26th. He left the station because he wanted to be close to family who live in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was born. Besides his love for the science of meteorology, Wine said that the people at WDHN made his time at the station more enjoyable. There, he served the community in many ways, including visiting schools and senior centers, to serving as a Board Member for the House of Ruth.
Wine said that his coworkers, the church family at First Presbyterian, all his friends, and the viewers across the wiregrass made it hard for him to move to Louisville, and that it was the hardest decision he has ever made in his life.
