Rockey works for WTKR as News 3’s Chief Meteorologist. Before joining the station in December 2002, Rockey worked as a meteorologist and a reporter for WYFF-TV. When Patrick was barely 7 years old, his fascination with weather started during a camping trip to Lake Gaston. His entire family was traveling in a pop-up camper that week, in June 1972.
The journey became muddy due to a severe downpour. But this storm wasn’t just an old downpour. Parts of Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York saw flooding and rainfall as a result of Hurricane Agnes’ remnants.
In some places, Agnes is still regarded as the worst natural disaster to ever strike. After that, Patrick developed a fascination for hurricanes, thunderstorms, and snowstorms, like all kids do. His greatest weather memory is undoubtedly the blizzard that hit Hampton Roads in 1980. Patrick has received various accolades from the Associated Press in addition to two Southern regional Emmy Awards.
